12 Days Family Special

Northern Tanzania & Zanzibar

Day 01 Arrival

You will be met at the International Airport of Kilimanjaro by our representative. We will take you to the L’Oasis Lodge a simple but charming lodge in the foothills of Mt. Meru. Traditional round huts are clustered in a spacious tropical garden, and a small pool guarantees refreshing moments on a hot day. Our safari manager will come to meet you and to provide you with a safari briefing.

Accommodation will be in a family room where 3-4 persons can comfortably sleep.

Day 02 Tarangire

Your Tour starts with the drive to Lake Manyara. Nestling at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is recognized for its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippos and others.

Driving time without game viewing approx. 2,5 hour.

Overnight at Rift Valley Lodge perched on an escarpment granting great views over Lake Manyara with grazing animals towards the Rift Valley Escarpment. All meals included.

Day 03 Exploring Lake Manyara and its surroundings

After spending most of the previous days in the car you might enjoy to get out of the car for some physical activities and to explore the area at the Rift Valley Escarpment by walk guided by well-trained local guides. First you walk through Mto wa Mbu Village where your guides introduce you to the local village and social life, to economic activities, education and many others things. Instead of the village tour your guides can also take you to a large banana plantation, one of the basics of local economy life and explain you about this agricultural meaning. Later you can walk through a small forest inhabited by monkeys and dikdiks which leads to Miwaleni River. Following the river is a thrilling (maybe little strenuous) hike and climb over rocks and stones until you finally reach Miwaleni Waterfall hidden in the Rift Valley Escarpment.

After lunch at your lodge or in the village and some rest the kids can go for a bicycle ride in the plains towards Lake Manyara while one of the friendly staff members will happily accompany them.
2nd overnight at Rift Valley Lodge. All meals included.

Day 04 Ngorongoro

After breakfast you travel towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After arrival you descend into the Crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch on the crater floor). Ngorongoro Crater is often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck the Big Five can be spotted during one game drive only.

Depending on your (or your kids’) stamina and if you wish to stretch your legs you can go on a guided Nature Walk along the Crater Rim after completing your game drive.
Driving time without game viewing approx. 1 hour.

Overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge (accommodation in a family room, usually equipped with a double and a bunk bed). All meals included.

Day 05 Ngorongoro-Serengeti

After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park (driving time some 4 hours, but with plenty to see on the way!) En route you will see grazing zebras, antelopes and giraffes and sometimes some buffalos hiding in the bush. You will visit a Masai Boma (traditional village) where some Masai Warriors will welcome you, show you around and explain their traditional life. They will also show you their famous jumping dance and invite you to join in if you like! You can also see inside houses, meet children, ask questions and take photos! After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) in Serengeti you will continue further into the park and go on a game drive in the afternoon. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species.

Tonight and the following night you spend in a comfortable tented camp at the edge of the famous Serengeti, with views over the endless savannah with some animals and typically African acacia trees.
